By George K. Momo

The Ministry of Information, (MOI) will on Friday, October 9, 2026, hosts the Government Town Hall engagement in Tubmanburg, Bomi County.

The Government Town Hall is part of efforts by the Ministry of Information to bring governance closer to the people and raise awareness about the activities and achievements of the government.

As part of activities leading to the event, Deputy Minister for Public Affairs, Daniel O. Sando and other officials as part of the ministry’s advanced team have been in the county to create awareness about the Town Hall dialogue at the Bomi Administration Building in Tubmanburg City.

The engagement set for Friday, October 9, 2026 will bring together a cross-section of citizens including civil society actors, persons with disabilities, the media, amongst others to take part in the dialogue.

A key item on the agenda to be discussed during the engagement is the US$1 billion in domestic revenue generated by the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA).

According to organizers, the Commissioner General of the Liberia Revenue Authority, James Dorbor Jallah, the Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Augustine Kpehe Nguafuan and other officials are expected to explain to the citizens how the government is utilizing the resources.

The explanation comes amid questions being asked by citizens in the country over the use of the revenue, including why citizens are still paying for services at public facilities and why some teachers are yet on the government payroll.

The Government Town Hall is expected to begin at 11:00 AM at the County Administration Hall.

Launched on May 7, 2025 at the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ministerial Complex by the Ministry of Information (MOI) is dubbed “Kapa Kulono” in the Kpelle vernacular meaning (Come Let’s Talk) i is intended to bridge the gap between government and citizens, promote inclusiveness, accountability, transparency, access to information and participatory governance.

The MOI initiative is intended to take the government directly to the people in all 15 counties instead of just press conferences in Monrovia.

The theme of first edition was “Smart Spending, Shared Growth; Building an Inclusive Liberia under the ARREST Agenda.

It is now being rolled out county-by-county, like the Bomi County edition on October 9th to explain government spending and get citizens’ feedback and scorecards on government’s performance.
