Senate Pro-Tempore Denies Role In Dagoseh’s Removal As Commerce Minister

Senate Pro-Tempore Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence has strongly denied the undermining and removal of Liberia former Commerce Minister Magdalene Ellen Dagoseh , stating that she never recommended the former Minister’s dismissal to the President.

The power of appointment and dismissal, according to Karnga-Lawrence, solely rests with the President, and that she has no authority to tell the President who to appoint and dismiss, as she debunks claims parading the political corridor that she pushed the dismissal of Madam Dagoseh.

Speaking recently on a community radio in Grand Bassa County, the Senate Pro-Tempore disclosed that when the ex-minister was nominated, she assured her that her confirmation will not be stalled at the Senate, as she is an ardent supporter of women’s inclusion in public space.

According to her, she would have prevented her confirmation if truly she never wanted her to ascend to the position.

She revealed that once the Senate denies anyone during a confirmation hearing, that person cannot easily get the job.

“I supported the appointment of Madam Dagoseh. She sat in my office before her confirmation hearing, and I made a commitment that she will be confirmed”, Karnga-Lawrence unveiled,” I have the strength in the Senate to deny Marthalene Dagoseh if I didn’t want her to be minister”.

Karnga-Lawrence clarified that she does not see the rationale behind her lobbying with the President for the removal of Madam Dagoseh when she had what it takes to deny her confirmation, calling on the public not to believe what is being fabricated by politicians.

Senator Karnga-Lawrence disclosed that she had long started her initiatives long before her nomination, but she has been undeterred and unshaken about whatever interest Madam Dagoseh may have, noting that she will continue winning whenever she contests in Grand Bassa County.

“Until I can retire, I will continue to win because I know my capacity, so I am not going to fight to undermine anybody.

“All of the people I have been in politics with, whether in Grand Bassa County or Liberia at large, I have never pushed or undermined them. In politics, I am a very strong politician”, the Senate Pro Tempore expressed.

She said the President even warned Madam Dagoseh before and told her to be top of her game, or she would be dismissed, revealing that this was in the public space, but there are people who remain hell-bent on linking her to the decision of the President.
