MONROVIA, Oct. 16 (LINA) – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr. is expected to officially open the Liberia International Mining and Energy Conference and Expo, a high-level gathering aimed at attracting investment in the country’s mining, energy and critical minerals sectors.
The conference is scheduled for Wednesday, October 28, 2026 at the Farmington Hotel in Margibi County.
The announcement was made Thursday, October 15, 2026 during the Ministry of Information’s regular press briefing.
Speaking at the briefing, Deputy Minister for Press and Public Affairs Daniel O. Sando said the international gathering is expected to bring together senior government officials, investors, mining and energy companies, development partners, technical experts, industry leaders and other stakeholders from Liberia, across Africa and beyond.
He said participants will explore investment opportunities and emerging prospects in Liberia’s mining and energy sectors.
According to Deputy Minister Sando, President Boakai’s participation underscores the Government’s commitment to the responsible development of the country’s mineral resources and energy potential.
He noted that the Government views these sectors as key drivers of economic growth, employment, infrastructure development and sustainable national development.
Mr. Sando said the conference comes at a time of growing interest in Liberia’s mineral and energy potential, with the country entering what he described as a significant new investment cycle.
He disclosed that approximately US$3 billion in new investments is projected, while iron ore production is expected to increase to between 25 million and 30 million tons annually.
He also cited newly confirmed opportunities in critical minerals and the national target of generating 75 percent of the country’s energy from renewable sources as part of Liberia’s broader development outlook.
Deputy Minister Sando emphasized that these developments could position Liberia as an increasingly important destination for investment and partnerships in iron ore, critical minerals, renewable energy, energy efficiency, mining technology, infrastructure and related services.
Meanwhile, he disclosed that the Ministry of Mines and Energy continues to work with relevant stakeholders to strengthen regulatory oversight, promote responsible mineral development, facilitate investment and support the sustainable transformation of Liberia’s mining and energy sectors.
