MONROVIA, Sept. 29 (LINA) — President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr. has issued a presidential proclamation announcing October 2026 as Liberia’s Month of Good Governance, a declaration formally presented to the public Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at the Ministry of Information.

The proclamation was read by Prof. Alaric K. Tokpa, Acting Chairman of the Governance Commission.

Mr. Tokpa told reporters that the observance ties into the Governance Commission’s founding on October 9, 2007, and reflects Liberia’s effort to align with the African Union Governance Architecture and international integrity standards.

He described good governance as encompassing integrity, accountability, transparency, efficient service delivery, and attention to marginalized and hard-to-reach communities.

Signed September 16, 2026, the proclamation directs all government ministries, agencies, and commissions to cooperate with the Governance Commission throughout October, including deployment of a “Scientific Governance Barometer” tool to compile an Annual State of Governance and Integrity Report.

Among the month’s centerpiece initiatives is the launch of the maiden National Integrity Index, developed with the General Auditing Commission and the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission, which will rank public institutions into performance tiers based on ethical leadership, efficiency, and financial openness.

The government also plans to institutionalize “citizens’ scorecards” gathered through town halls and digital feedback mechanisms, and will convene independent review panels from civil society, academia, and the private sector to validate governance metrics before they reach the Executive.

The proclamation additionally calls for public dialogues and outreach across Liberia’s 15 counties involving schools, traditional leadership councils, and media houses, along with an awards program recognizing individuals, institutions, and communities that demonstrate strong governance practices.
