MONROVIA, Oct. 21 (LINA) — Deputy Minister for Urban Affairs at the Ministry of Local Government Minister Fatima Bintu Sirleaf has emphasized the importance of mentorship in helping girls recognize their potential, pursue education, and prepare for future leadership roles.

Speaking at a girls’ mentorship program, Sirleaf encouraged young women to remain focused on their ambitions and seek opportunities that will help them grow academically, professionally, and personally.

Drawing from her own experiences, she explained how encouragement from her mother, despite the latter’s lack of formal education, helped shape her outlook on life and inspired her to pursue her ambitions.

Sirleaf also recounted how her aunt encouraged her to return to school after she had become a homemaker, a decision that eventually led her to earn bachelor’s and master’s degrees in social work.

She said the experience reinforced her belief that girls and women should not allow their circumstances or responsibilities to prevent them from pursuing education and developing their abilities.

The minister urged girls to recognize their worth and avoid allowing social media and the expectations of others to define their identities or determine their aspirations.

She stressed that girls can pursue education, build careers, raise families, and assume leadership positions if they remain committed to their goals.

Sirleaf further encouraged young women to understand that learning is a lifelong process and that it is never too late to acquire knowledge or pursue a different path.

She called on the girls to believe in themselves and take advantage of opportunities that can help them develop the confidence and skills needed to achieve their dreams.

The mentorship program brought together girls to discuss personal development, education, and the opportunities available to them as they prepare for their futures.

The “SHE IS THE WAY” One-Day Girls’ Mentorship Program, was sponsored by the Mandela Cooper Foundation.
