MONROVIA, Oct. 21 (LINA) – The Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) has begun a frequency scanning exercise of FM radio stations across Montserrado County, as part of efforts to strengthen regulatory compliance, reduce signal interference and promote effective management of the country’s radio spectrum.
The exercise is being carried out by the LTA’s Engineering and Technology Department, Deputy Minister for Press and Public Affairs Daniel O. Sando disclosed Tuesday, October 20, 2026 at the Ministry of Information regular press briefing.
According to him, the initiative seeks to identify unauthorized broadcasting operations, detect improper use of assigned frequencies, and verify whether licensed stations are operating in line with the frequencies and technical requirements approved by the LTA.
The LTA said findings from the exercise will guide appropriate regulatory actions in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, he noted.
Mr. Sando said the exercise is intended to improve signal quality, protect authorized broadcasting services, and ensure the efficient use of Liberia’s limited frequency spectrum.
Following the Montserrado exercise, he said that the LTA plans to extend the frequency scanning initiative nationwide, as part of its broader effort to strengthen regulatory oversight and ensure compliance among radio stations across the country.
