MONROVIA May 20 (LINA) – The Association of Judicial Reporters of Liberia (AJURL) has stepped into a pivotal role in advocating for the establishment of a War and Economic Crimes Court, a move aimed at advancing Liberia’s long-standing quest for justice.
This comes in response to a formal request from the Office for the Establishment of the War and Economic Crimes Court for Liberia (OWECC-L) and is in line with the renewed momentum generated by Executive Order #164, issued by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., to tackle unresolved wartime atrocities and economic crimes.
AJURL’s commitment includes a dual strategic role under the Legislative Lobbying framework, where it will serve as Co-Chair for Public Awareness and Education, as well as a member of the Restatement of Executive Order #164 Thematic Group.
This significant assignment positions the organization at the center of public engagement and legislative advocacy, reinforcing its influence on one of Liberia’s most critical justice initiatives.
AJURL President, Madam Yassah Josephine Wright, emphasized the importance of this undertaking, stating, “This is bigger than institutional participation; it is about giving voice to victims, informing the public truthfully, and ensuring that justice is no longer delayed or denied.”
With a strict time-bound implementation plan in place, AJURL is set to lead public awareness campaigns, engage lawmakers across various committees and caucuses, and work to translate policy directives from EO #164 into actionable outcomes.
The first technical meeting of stakeholders is scheduled for May 19, 2026, at the OWECC-L headquarters in Mamba Point, where crucial groundwork will be established for this transformative effort.
In a call to action, AJURL urges the Legislature, civil society, and international partners to unify in support, reminding all that “this is a test of national will,” and that Liberia cannot afford to miss another opportunity to confront its past and secure a just future.
AJURL is dedicated to advancing ethical, accurate, and impactful reporting on legal and judicial affairs.
The Association plays a pivotal role in promoting transparency, accountability, and public trust in Liberia’s justice system.
