ZWEDRU, Sept. 30 (LINA) – Hundreds of residents and government officials in Grand Gedeh County participated in a health walk on Saturday as Liberia officially launched its National Wellness and Exercise Day program.
The event, which formed part of a nationwide observance, commenced at the Martha Tubman Memorial Hospital and attracted civil servants, healthcare professionals, students of the Grand Gedeh County Midwifery School and representatives from various government ministries and agencies.
Participants included officials from the Ministries of Education, Local Government and Information, as well as the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS).
Following the exercise, Dr. Mike Tulay Nyanfor, a Specialist Internist at Martha Tubman Memorial Hospital, underscored the importance of regular physical activity in preventing and managing non-communicable diseases.
He explained that consistent exercise contributes significantly to the management of hypertension, diabetes and stroke by improving cardiovascular health and blood circulation.
Dr. Nyanfor commended the Government of Liberia and the Ministry of Health for introducing the initiative and encouraged citizens to adopt physically active lifestyles.
National Wellness and Exercise Day was proclaimed by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai and officially launched by the Ministry of Health on September 26, 2026. The program will be observed every last Saturday of the month across Liberia.
