MONROVIA, Oct. 16 (LINA)–The House of Representatives has ordered the appearance of the Minister of Public Works Roland Layfette Giddings and the East International Group Incorporated to give report to the people’s deputies about the status and standard of the ELWA Junction to Roberts International Airport corridor.

Bringing the attention of the House to the corridor, Nimba County District #5 Rep. Kortor Kwagrue raised significant concern about the progress and standard of the road.

According to him, the Ministry and the company constructing the road have to come before the House to explain the status of the road, the number of layers expected on the road, and how soon the road is expected to be completed, as the road was initially expected to be completed in 2023.

During the House’s 2nd sitting of the 3rd Session of the 3rd  Quarter of the House of Representatives, held on Thursday, October 15, 2026, Rep. Kwagrue encouraged his colleagues to initiate its oversight responsibility as the road is significant because it is an international route, and that it deserves the legislature’s support in order to meet acceptable engineering standards.

‎He disclosed that despite the road still under construction, there are potholes and cracks on the road, questioning whether the current work meets the required standards.

Kwagrue intimated that a properly constructed road consists of several layers, serving respective functions in ensuring that it strengthens its strength and durability.

He further informed the chamber that workers are using manual tools, including shovels and diggers, to excavate sections of the road– something he says raised significant questions about the standard of work being currently implemented.

‎When the matter was open for discussion, lawmakers expressed their support to Kwagrue’s quest because the road has been long overdue, stating that the country will not spend about US110 million and in less than ten years, the road reverts to it past status.

The House then informed the Chief Clerk to invite the Minister of Public Works and the East International Group Incorporated to appear on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.
