MONROVIA, Sept. 29 (LINA) – The Government of Liberia is using the United Nations General Assembly in New York to unveil a string of developments back home, including good governance, infrastructure expansion among others.

President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr. launched Liberia’s Third National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security (NAP 3) at a side event hosted by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection during the 81st UN General Assembly session.

Speaking at the Ministry of Information Press briefing Tuesday, September 22, 2026, Deputy Minister for Press and Public Affairs at the Ministry of Information Daniel O. Sando said Liberia was noted as the first post-conflict country in the world to adopt a national plan implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1325, which calls for greater representation of women in decision-making roles related to conflict prevention and resolution.

According to him, the plan outlines five priority areas aligned with Liberia’s ARREST Agenda: conflict prevention; protection and access to justice, including operationalizing the office to support the War and Economic Crimes Court; expanded political participation, with a target of 15% female representation in the Armed Forces of Liberia by 2028, rising to 40% nationally by 2030; relief and recovery; coordination and financing.

He disclosed that Pres. Boakai is also set to attend the formal opening of the UNGA’s 81st session, themed “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All,” followed by a bilateral meeting with Kenyan President William Ruto and an evening reception hosted by U.S. President Donald Trump.

Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti signed a maritime and port security memorandum with her Cypriot counterpart and was slated to speak on climate resilience and economic security alongside former Irish President Mary Robinson and Acumen founder Jacqueline Novogratz.

Gender Minister Gbeme Horace-Kollie attended a separate side event on women, youth, peace and security.

Min. Sando further informed reporters that Liberia’s Environmental Protection Agency, with UNDP support, was also scheduled to convene a session on the links between climate change, conflict and natural resources.
