MONROVIA, June 28 (LINA) – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has praised Germany’s Ambassador to Liberia, Dr. Jakob Haselhuber, for his dedicated service and significant contributions to strengthening the longstanding relationship between Liberia and Germany as he concludes his diplomatic assignment in the country.

Receiving Ambassador Haselhuber at his Rehab Office on Thursday, President Boakai highlighted the strong and cordial ties between the two nations and expressed appreciation for Germany’s continued support to Liberia’s development efforts.

The President noted that Liberia-Germany relations have reached a higher level of cooperation and mutual respect, attributing part of that progress to the outgoing Ambassador’s commitment and leadership during his tenure.

President Boakai also acknowledged Germany’s valuable contributions to Liberia’s national development, particularly in capacity building and the training of professionals across key sectors of government. He encouraged Ambassador Haselhuber to remain engaged in promoting opportunities that would further enhance cooperation and mutual benefits between the two countries.

The Liberian leader further praised the resilience and commitment of the German people, emphasizing their longstanding partnership with Liberia.

In response, Ambassador Haselhuber thanked President Boakai, the Government, and the people of Liberia for the warm hospitality extended to him throughout his diplomatic service in the country.

The outgoing envoy noted that the German Adenauer Foundation is already operating in Liberia and is expected to collaborate closely with the Executive and Legislative branches in support of democratic governance and development initiatives.

Ambassador Haselhuber is concluding his second diplomatic posting in Liberia, having previously served as Germany’s Ambassador from 2016 to 2019. He returned to Monrovia in August 2021 and has served for nearly five years during his current tenure.

Liberia and Germany share a longstanding relationship dating back to 1855, when the German Hanseatic cities of Hamburg, Bremen, and Lübeck recognized Liberia’s independence.

Formal diplomatic relations between Liberia and the Federal Republic of Germany were established on July 23, 1953, and have continued to grow through cooperation in trade, development, education, and governance.
