Monrovia, April 1(LINA)- In a bold and strategic move signaling renewed commitment to education and national transformation, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has sealed a historic partnership with Eric W. Wowoh to accelerate development through the fast-rising Change Agent Network University (CAN University).
The President has already backed his words with action delivering key financial support aimed at boosting infrastructure and sustainability at the institution.
His contributions include US$5,000 for the completion of the administrative building and US$10,000 for solar energy installation, a move expected to transform academic operations and improve learning conditions for students and faculty alike.
“We are committed to the long-term agreement to support this institution because of its importance to the people it serves,” President Boakai declared, reinforcing his rallying call: “Think Liberia, Love Liberia, and Build Liberia.”
A Growing Beacon of Hope in Lofa
Located in Zorzor District, Lofa County, CAN University is quickly emerging as a symbol of opportunity in northern Liberia.
The partnership underscores the government’s focus on expanding technical and vocational education, especially in underserved regions.
President Boakai also unveiled plans to establish international academic collaboration with a partner university in Arizona, USA an initiative aimed at strengthening professional development and global exposure for Liberian students.
Built by the People, For the People
The story of CAN University is one of unity and sacrifice. The land hosting the institution was donated by the people of Fissibu Town home of Mr. Wowoh—demonstrating a powerful grassroots commitment to education.
Funding for the university has come from a broad coalition, including Liberians in the diaspora, international partners such as Friends of Liberia, and local citizens ranging from farmers to business professionals. Community members have also contributed labor and logistical support, making the university a true national project.
Water, Power, and Sustainability
Beyond financial contributions, President Boakai has pledged to provide a modern drilled-water system with full plumbing, ensuring access to safe water across campus—an essential step toward improving student welfare and institutional resilience.
Genesis Farm: Cultivating Liberia’s Future
In tandem with the university’s growth, the Genesis Farm Project—a 150-acre agricultural initiative in Wozi Town—is being positioned as a national model for food security. Spearheaded by Mr. Wowoh, the project aims to drive sustainable agriculture while empowering local communities.
President Boakai has advised conducting soil testing to determine the most suitable crops, emphasizing a scientific approach to long-term productivity.
“We solve our own problems when we commit ourselves to solving the problems of others,” Mr. Wowoh noted, capturing the spirit behind the initiative.
A Legacy Etched in Agriculture
In recognition of the President’s leadership in revitalizing Liberia’s agricultural sector, CAN University has announced that its College of Agriculture will be named the Joseph N. Boakai Sr. College of Agriculture (JNBCA)—a historic honor cementing his role in shaping the nation’s food security agenda.
Eyes on a Historic First Graduation
As momentum builds, President Boakai has accepted an invitation to serve as Commencement Speaker at CAN University’s first-ever graduation ceremony this July, marking yet another milestone in the institution’s rapid rise.
With strategic investment, community-driven vision, and strong leadership, the partnership between President Boakai and Eric Wowoh is being hailed as a turning point—one that could redefine education, agriculture, and youth empowerment in Liberia.
