Pres. Boakai Endorses Minister Bility To Chair Lone Star Fundraising Committee 

MONROVIA, Aug. 20. (LINA) – The Chief Patron of Sports of Liberia, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has endorsed the appointment of Minister Mamaka Bility, Minister of State Without Portfolio to serve as a Chairperson of the Planning Committee for the Senior National team of Liberia Fundraising initiative ahead of upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2027) Qualifying Campaign.

According to a release dated August 18, 2026 by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the President of Liberia who is the Chief Patron of Sports in Liberia has reposed his trust in Minister Bility to use her persuasive ideas to partner with other eminent citizens in and out of Liberia to lead potential and influential men and women in soliciting support for Lone Star.

September 11, 2026 is set for the committee to have their first major responsibility aimed at coordinating preparations ahead of the AFCON Competition.

President Boakai has accepted to lead the fundraising effort which underscores his administration’s commitment, and the national importance of the Lone Star’s AFCON campaign. 

The decision of the Liberian Chief Patron of Sports is expected to help galvanize support across the public and private sectors.

As part of the Liberian government’s agenda to improve the livelihood of Liberians, sports is one of the major pillars of the Government’s agenda.

The occasion organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and Lone Star Fundraising Committee will serve as the first major responsibility and activity in the national mobilization effort for the Senior National Team of Liberia AFCON 2027 Qualifying Campaign.

The fundraising dinner night program is expected to be graced by several national leaders from diverse walks of the society both in the private and governmental circles who will converge to discuss and have a one common objective for Liberia AFCON Qualification.

Key among other things are the rebranding of Liberia’s Senior National Team, Lone Star for its preparation of the upcoming AFCON  The engagement will also focus on providing the financial and material support necessary to give the Lone Star the strongest possible preparation for its qualifying campaign.

The MYS Statement indicated that the initiative underscores the Government of Liberia’s Commitment to provide adequate support for the Lone Star but at the same time extends passionate calls to other institutions and individuals to join the campaign in soliciting and providing support for Liberia ahead of the competition.

Liberia’s national football team, the Lone Star, has been drawn into Group “K” for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers along with Mali, Cape Verde and Rwanda.
