MONROVIA, Oct. 21 (LINA) — The Food Authority of Liberia (FAL) has begun training food safety master trainers as part of efforts to strengthen food safety standards and regulatory compliance across the country.
According to Daniel O. Sando, Deputy Minister for Press and Public Affairs at the Ministry of Information, the training, known as the Master Trainer Training, focuses on food safety and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), a systematic approach to identifying, evaluating, and controlling food safety hazards.
Speaking at the Ministry of Information’s regular press briefing on Thursday, October 15, 2026, Minister Sando said the initiative aims to equip participants with the technical knowledge and practical skills needed to promote safe food-handling practices and improve compliance with established food safety procedures.
He indicated that the trained master trainers are expected to share their knowledge and expertise with food safety inspectors who will be deployed across the country, adding that the initiative is being supported by the European Union (EU), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and the Liberia Food Safety Initiative.
Minister Sando said developing local expertise is essential to preventing foodborne illnesses, strengthening regulatory enforcement, and protecting consumers nationwide.
Meanwhile, Sando disclosed that a total of 16 participants has so far completed the training, with the authority expected to train at least 100 food safety inspectors across Liberia before December 2026.
He added that the program forms part of broader efforts to build national capacity in food safety management and ensure that food businesses adhere to established safety standards.
The Food Authority of Liberia is expected to expand the training and deployment of inspectors to improve monitoring and promote safer food practices throughout the country.
