MONROVIA, Oct. 24 (LINA) –Liberia will host a three-day strategic meeting of the African Group of Negotiators (AGN) on Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE) from October 27 to 29, 2026, at the Royal Ambassador Hotel in Unification Town, along the Roberts International Airport Highway, Margibi County.
According to a statement issued on October 22, 2026 by the EPA, the meeting is being hosted by the Government of Liberia through the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), on behalf of the AGN, with support from UNICEF Liberia.
The meeting will bring together African climate negotiators, National ACE Focal Points, technical experts, government representatives and key partners.
The objective is to strengthen Africa’s collective voice and coordination on climate empowerment ahead of the 31st United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP31), scheduled for November 9–20 in Antalya, Türkiye.
Under the theme “Strengthening Africa’s Common Position on Action for Climate Empowerment: From SB64 Outcomes to Strategic Engagement at COP31,” participants will review outcomes from the 64th sessions of the UNFCCC Subsidiary Bodies (SB64), agree on shared priorities and develop coordinated negotiating strategies for COP31.
Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE) promotes climate education and training, public awareness and participation, access to information and international cooperation.
These pillars are critical to ensuring that people across Africa – especially children, young people, women and vulnerable communities – can meaningfully participate in climate action and support the implementation of national climate commitments.
The Margibi meeting will focus on shaping a unified African position on the future of the Glasgow work program on ACE and its Action Plan. Participants will also identify key negotiating priorities, enhance collaboration between negotiators and National ACE Focal Points, and explore practical approaches to advance climate education, climate literacy, capacity building, financing and inclusive public participation.
According to the release, at the end of the deliberations, participants are expected to produce a set of common African negotiating priorities, a preliminary ACE strategy for COP31, a coordination and communications framework, and a roadmap to guide Africa’s engagement in the negotiations.
Hosting this continental meeting underscores Liberia’s commitment to regional cooperation, inclusive climate governance and effective African participation in global climate decision-making.
It also provides an opportunity for African countries and partners to deepen collaboration and advance climate empowerment actions that reflect the continent’s priorities and development needs.
The EPA invites members of the media and stakeholders to follow the meeting and its outcomes as African representatives work toward a coordinated, practical and well-supported approach to Action for Climate Empowerment.
