MONROVIA, June 17 (LINA) – In an effort to create job opportunities through human capacity building in technical education, the Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Youth and Sports, has broken ground for the construction of Tappita Vocational Training Institute aimed at providing technical education for Liberian youth and equipping them with marketable skills in society.
According to the Ministry of Youth and Sports release dated June 10, 2026, the Deputy Minister for Technical Vocational Education and Training, Laraamand Nyonton stated that the construction of the Tappita Vocational Training Institute in Nimba County is a new beginning of many opportunities which marks a step forward for the technical and vocational education in the central and southeastern regions for the young people.
Delivering remarks on behalf of the President of Liberia at the ceremony, Deputy Minister Nyonton said the estate of the Tappita Vocational Training Institute will be a new skills training hub for Liberian Youth that would help to greatly reduce the unskilled rate and improve their livelihood through human capacity building in technical education.
He emphasized that the steps taken by the government to expand technical training center in Tappita, Nimba County, is intentional because the young people play a major component in the ARREST AGENDA for Inclusive Development for youth employment and nation building, and as such true development will not be achieved if the young people are excluded.
He pointed out that the location of the training hub is very strategic at the extent it would improve regional accessibility and young people will come from Grand Gedeh, Bong, River Cess, and surrounding counties, who will no longer have to migrate to Monrovia in search of quality TVET training.
Minister Nyonton assured that Tappita Vocational Training Institute will deliver state-of-the-art training to every child in dire need of skills acquisition and the curriculum will be aligned with the industrial and mechanical needs of the region, promoting economic empowerment.
He also called on the administrators to exert more effort, adding that their role is a sacred responsibility for the future of Nimba, the region, and Liberia at large.
At same time, the Ministry of Youth and Sports official cautioned the youth to remain calm and focus on things that will significantly impact their lives, stressing that the youth are a priority at the center of the ARREST AGENDA.
Meanwhile, Minster Nyonton assured the young people that they will no longer leave the youth to manage their own skill development future, therefore the government is stepping in and bearing the cost of training materials, adding that the government is on a mission to revolutionize TVET in Liberia.
