KAKATA, June 23 (LINA) – After years of deterioration and neglect, rehabilitation works have commenced on the main road linking Kakata to Gibi District in Margibi County, bringing hope to residents and commuters who have long struggled with poor road conditions.

Speaking at the launch of the project, Margibi County District #5 Representative Clarence Gahr reaffirmed his commitment to improving road connectivity across the district, pledging to ensure that roads remain accessible and safe for year-round transportation.

Representative Gahr noted that the main road leading to Worhn in Gibi District has not undergone any significant rehabilitation since 2013, leaving communities isolated and hampering economic activities.

He emphasized that road development remains one of his top priorities, noting that he has procured two brand-new earth-moving machines to spearhead the rehabilitation effort while exploring additional avenues to secure more equipment for road construction and maintenance.

“Although we have already begun reconstructing, and rehabilitating other roads within the district, starting with the main road into Gibi, is a significant milestone,” Gahr said. “Improved road access will enable farmers and traders to transport their agricultural produce to markets more efficiently and stimulate economic growth throughout the district.”

The lawmaker acknowledged the high cost of the project but stressed that delivering essential services to his constituents is the responsibility entrusted to him by the people.

“This undertaking will be expensive, but this is exactly why I was elected to serve the people and ensure they receive the services they deserve,” he stated.

The approximately 40-kilometers road was originally constructed in the early 1970s during the administration of former President William R. Tolbert Jr. under the government’s flagship National Rally Time Market initiative.

Upon completion, the rehabilitation of the Gibi main road is expected to significantly reduce transportation challenges, particularly during the rainy season, and improve access to communities across the district.

Meanwhile, residents of the area have lauded Representative Clarence Gahr for what they describe as a relief to their movement between Kakata and Gibi District.
