MONROVIA, June 24 (LINA) – Liberia’s Information Minister Jerolinmek Matthew Piah has expressed the government’s desire to getting to the bottom of the 237.6 kg of cocaine which was confiscated at the Roberts International Airport, committing that there will be no cover up for any officials of government if investigation points finger to any government’s officials.
As per public’s perceptions–particularly from the opposition community, that the government is concealing ‘key officials of government’ involved, Min. Piah refuted claims noting that the government will not protect those involved, whether officials of government or not.
Minister Piah disclosed that if the government wanted to protect people as speculated, the government would not have arrested the narcotic drugs at the Airport.
Speaking Monday, June 22, 2026, on State Radio, the Chief Spokesperson of the Liberian government assured Liberians that the current administration will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the ongoing investigation meets the desired outcome of the government and the Liberian people.
The government, according to him, has made significant progress so far in her investigation, revealing that international partners are being invited to form part of the investigative process, as reported in the President’s recent speech about the drug saga.
Though the Minister did not name the international guest of investigators, he noted that such action indicates how serious the matter is to the government.
As the Liberian leader committed, the government’s mouthpiece reassured the public that there will be no drug cartels in Liberia, and if there is any, the government will definitely dismantle it so that Liberian children will be safe from the scourge.
Unveiling some of the progress being made in the fight against narcotic substances, Piah asserted that the LDEA is not only making arrests, but also prosecuting those arrested.
“Between 2024-2025, the LDEA had 15 court convictions and six convictions in 2026”, the information minister disclosed, saying that this is a great achievement in the war against drugs, and that the government remains hell-bent on ensuring that no traffickers of drugs go away with impunity and scot-free when they are caught.
He added that the way young people used to be acting in the streets under the influence of drugs has been significantly reduced.
The Minister informed the citizenry that the government will continue to tighten its waist in mitigating these harmful substances.
As part of the progress, the Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Justice has already named 10 persons of interests surrounding the matter.
