MONROVIA, Oct. 21 (LINA)—The Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection Gbeme Harris-Kollie has urged Liberian girls to believe in themselves, remain focused on their goals, and develop the discipline needed to overcome challenges and achieve success.

Speaking at the “SHE IS THE WAY” one-day girls’ mentorship program sponsored by the MacDella Cooper Foundation on Friday, October 16, the Minister emphasized that determination, focus, discipline, and relentlessness are essential qualities for young women seeking to succeed in life.

Reflecting on her professional journey, the Minister said women often face doubts and resistance from people who question their abilities and qualifications.

She recalled an experience during a meeting while serving as Deputy Minister, when she was repeatedly prevented from contributing to a discussion despite being the only woman among the men present.

The Minister said she eventually stood up and insisted on being given the opportunity to speak. She explained that the solution to the problem under discussion emerged when she was finally allowed to contribute.

She said the experience demonstrates why young women must recognize their abilities, speak with confidence, and claim their rightful place in decision-making spaces.

The Gender Minister also encouraged the girls to make responsible decisions, remain disciplined, and carefully consider the consequences of their actions, particularly when making choices that could affect their education and future.

She cautioned against distractions and urged the participants to remain committed to their goals despite setbacks, criticism, and discouragement.

“Learn to believe in yourself,” the Minister urged, emphasizing that self-confidence and determination are important for young women seeking to achieve their ambitions.

She commended the MacDella Cooper Foundation for organizing the mentorship program and investing in the development of Liberian girls.

The Minister also reaffirmed the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection’s willingness to partner with the Foundation in advancing initiatives that empower girls and prepare them for future opportunities.

The “SHE IS THE WAY” mentorship program focused on inspiring girls to recognize their potential, build confidence, and develop the qualities needed to pursue their goals.
