MONROVIA, April 21 (LINA) – The House of Representatives has expelled Representative Yekeh Y. Kolubah of Montserrado County District #10, after 49 members signed and voted in favor of his removal from the House.

Reporting to Plenary on Friday, April 17, 2026, during the special sitting of the House, the committee on Rules, Order, and Administration (ROA) reported that Rep. Kolubah’s character undermines the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Liberia, recommending that based on its investigation, Kolubah should be expelled from the House of Representatives.

“Honorable Yekeh Y. Kolubah of Montserrado County District #10 and a member of the 55th National Legislature, Republic of Liberia, is hereby expelled as member of this Honorable House for cause due to act and utterance unpatriotic, unnationalistic character, which undermines the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Liberia,” the committee asserted in its report to plenary.

The committee added: “Now therefore, we affix our signatures constituting 2/3 majority members of the House of Representatives and hereby agreed, confirmed, and reaffirmed our resolve upon our approbation and signatories.”

In addition, Hon. Kolubah has been stripped off all rights, privileges, benefits, amenities, among others. The leadership of the House has mandated him to turn over all properties in his possession which belong to the House.

Also, the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Republic of Liberia, Cllr. Oswald Tweh, has been instructed to probe Kolubah, who the House referred to as the “expelled member” of the House of Representatives.

The House’s decision to expel the lawmaker was reached based on a communication from Rep. Sumo K. Mulbah of Montserrado County District #3, who complained Hon. Kolubah to the House, requesting for his expulsion for remarking that disputed land in the Sorlumba area between Liberia and Guinea belongs to Guinea.

Rep. Mulbah believes the statement undermines the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Liberia, and that his position on the matter falls short of his office and duty. After the complaint, the House referred his communication to the Rules, Order and Administration to probe Kolubah and report to the body within the timeline of the special sitting of the House, which commenced on April 9, 2026.

Upon the reading of the report, 49 out of 73 members of the House of Representatives endorsed the removal of Hon. Yekeh Y. Kolubah.

The House’s move to expel Hon. Kolubah falls within in the bailiwick of the Constitution of Liberia, particularly Article 38 of the 1986 Constitution which talks about the House expelling its members for a cause in accordance with due process in line with the by-laws of the Republic of Liberia.

As the decision has been reached, the public is now watching as to what would be the way forward as the Supreme Court of Liberia halted the proceeding, citing both parties, including the House and Kolubah, to a conference on Monday, April 20, 2026.

Kolubah’s expulsion has now created a vacancy in District #10, which calls for a by-election through the notification of the National Elections Commission (NEC). If a vacancy is created, Article 48 of the Liberian Constitution mandates that by-election be conducted within 90 days to fill in the vacant seat.
