MONROVIA, Aug. 10 (LINA) – The Liberia Special Economic Zones Authority (LSEZA) and the Liberia National Tourism Authority (LNTA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to jointly develop Liberia’s first Special Tourism Economic Zone at Lake Piso in Grand Cape Mount County.

The agreement sets out how both institutions will work together to drive sustainable tourism investment, boost economic growth, protect the environment, and support community development through a dedicated eco-tourism zone.

The partnership also aligns with the Government of Liberia’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID). Its focus is on attracting private sector investment, generating jobs, empowering local communities, and promoting environmental sustainability.

Speaking at the signing ceremony on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, LSEZA Executive Chairman Prince A. Wreh called the collaboration a major milestone for Liberia’s Special Economic Zone program, particularly in the tourism sector.

He said the project will draw investors, create employment, strengthen local businesses, and establish Lake Piso in Grand Cape Mount County as a top eco-tourism destination in West Africa and beyond.

Under the terms of the MOU, LSEZA will handle the designation and management of the Special Tourism Economic Zone, while the Authority will also manage investment incentives, coordinate infrastructure projects, and run a one-stop service center for investors.

Meanwhile, the Liberia National Tourism Authority, headed by Director General Princess Eva Cooper, will regulate tourism standards, market the destination globally, and build the capacity of tourism and hospitality businesses operating within the zone.

The proposed zone is expected to broaden Liberia’s economy by extending the Special Economic Zone program beyond industry and trade into high-value tourism services.

The signing signals the start of deeper collaboration between LSEZA and LNTA as both agencies work to tap into the tourism and investment potential of Lake Piso and position Liberia as a competitive hub for eco-tourism.
