MONROVIA, April 13 (LINA) – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has departed Liberia on an official visit to Ethiopia, marking a significant step in advancing diplomatic and economic cooperation between the two African nations.
The visit, scheduled for April 14-15, comes at the invitation of Abiy Ahmed Ali, Prime Minister of Ethiopia and is expected to reinforce long standing bilateral relations while opening new avenues for collaboration on key regional and international issues.
According to a statement from the Executive Mansion, President Boakai is leading a high-powered delegation comprising senior government officials and advisors.
Among them are Foreign Affairs Minister Sarah Beysolow-Nyanti, National Defense Minister Brigadier General (Rtd.) Geraldine Janet George, National Security Advisor Samuel Kofi Woods, and University of Liberia President Dr. Layli Maparyan, among others.
During his stay in Addis Ababa, President Boakai is expected to engage in high-level talks with Prime Minister Abiy and other top Ethiopian officials.
The discussions will focus on strengthening cooperation in areas such as governance, education, security, and economic development—key pillars seen as critical to mutual growth and regional stability.
The trip underscores Liberia’s renewed diplomatic engagement across Africa, as the Boakai administration seeks to deepen partnerships that can drive national development and continental unity.
In the President’s absence, Honorable Samuel A. Stevquoah has been designated to chair Cabinet affairs in consultation with the President and the Vice President, ensuring continuity in governance.
President Boakai is expected to return to Monrovia on April 16, following the conclusion of his official engagements in Ethiopia.
The visit is widely viewed as a strategic move to reposition Liberia on the continental stage, fostering stronger alliances and expanding opportunities for cooperation within Africa.
