MONROVIA, June 24 (LINA) – The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Richard Nagbe Koon, said that deceased former Rep. Dusty Wolokollie was not just a lawmaker, but someone who has greatly contributed to the country’s thriving political ambience.

Paying tribute on behalf of the House, on Thursday, June 18, 2026, on the grounds of the Capitol, Koon noted that the former lawmaker was a true advocate, who was fearless and firm on ensuring that what is right is achieved.

Speaker Koon disclosed that the late Rep. Wolokolie was not an ordinary Liberian politician, stating that his caliber is rare to find, as he used his “conscience, voice, and standard” that challenged every institution he served.

Recounting the journey of the former legislator, the head of the Legislature noted that from his student activism to becoming a Liberian legislator, Wolokollie was relentless in his advocacy and persistent to see Liberia as a better place.

Speaker Koon recalled that in 1984, Wolokollie spoke truth to power, with his remarkable speech which he tailored as “Strange Things Are Happening”, noting that his strong words led him to incarceration by the military government.

As a member of the House, according to him, Wolokolie chaired the Standing Committee on Good Governance and Governance Reform and served with distinction at the Pan-African Parliament.

Though he did not benefit from him, the Speaker added that his political journey benefited from the Wolokollie’s family, revealing his cordial relationship with Dr. Samora P.Z. Wolokollie, the son of the deceased, who contributed to his political journey.

He feared that his revelation about his relationship with Dr. Wolokollie would not taint his friendship with the Congress for Democratic Change. “I know you people. Please, do not go after him because I said he helped me and is a close friend of mine”, the Speaker said, in what he called a joking manner.

On behalf of the House of Representatives, Speaker Koon extended deepest condolences to the family of the late Hon. Dusty Lawrence Wolokolie, who represented Montserrado County District Four during the 52nd Legislature. The Speaker noted that the late Rep. will be remembered for his relentless and persistent advocacy in politics.
