MONROVIA, June 24 (LINA) – Information Minister Jerolinmek Matthew Piah has expressed admiration of the recent positive comment from Liberia’s former Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor, describing her assertion about progress being made by the current administration as nationalistic.

Min. Piah said no country in the world is free from challenges which Liberia is not exempted, but also there are some positive steps Liberia is making progress under the current administration, which the former Vice President admitted and even blamed the media for flagging more negativity over positivity, amidst the gains the country is achieving.

Appearing on the ELBC Super Morning Show, Monday, June 22, 2026, in Monrovia, the Information minister described the former VP as a “national leader”, noting that when one serves the country and leaves, it does mean when there are positives, they should be ignored.

According to him, when the country makes progress, it will reflect on the entire country and people.

“I was listening to the former VP and I was astonished by the positivity of the comment she made about the government’s progress,” the government’s Chief Spokesperson noted.

He said the comment means a lot to the national discourse because Madam Taylor is not a praise singer, but rather someone who speaks true to the discourse.

“What does it mean? It means someone who is not necessarily a praise singer, who is not necessarily a part of the system, acknowledges that progress is being made, in as much as there are challenges”, he added.

Piah wants national leaders to bring sanity and transparency to political discourse of the country, when there are positives, people speak about them, and when there are negatives, people speak about them, which will also help the government to be on an alert to do what is good for the country.

Recently, the former VP, Chief Madam Jewel Howard Taylor, criticized the Liberian media for focusing more on propagating negative news than positive news relative to some of the good things that are happening in the country.

She named the recent groundbreaking of the first maternity hospital by the government, which was not significantly broadcasted by the media, as a good step and development that needs the public attention.
