BARCLAYVILLE, June 28 (LINA) – The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) Grand Kru County Detachment has intensified its anti-drug campaign by taking its “Say No to Drugs” awareness initiative directly into schools across the country ahead of the observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26.
The move marks a strategic shift in the agency’s ongoing fight against narcotics, following the successful dismantling of several notorious drug hubs and ghettos during the first phase of its operations.
LDEA Grand Kru Detachment Commander, Special Agent Alex K. Toweh, disclosed that after cracking down on drug-infested communities in Buah, Forpoh, Dorbor, Barclayville, and Trembo, the agency is now focusing on students and local communities in an effort to prevent substance abuse among young people.
According to Commander Toweh, Grand Kru County has been identified in the LDEA’s 2026 annual report as a major drug trafficking hotspot in southeastern Liberia, making sustained public awareness and prevention efforts imperative.
“Grand Kru is listed in the LDEA 2026 annual report as a drug trafficking hotspot in southeastern Liberia. We cannot win this fight in the ghettos alone. We must meet the students where they are and equip them to say no,” Toweh emphasized.
The county LDEA boss praised residents, local authorities, and community leaders for their support during recent anti-drug operations, noting that intelligence provided by citizens significantly contributed to the disruption of several drug trafficking networks.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and refrain from harboring drug dealers, stressing that continued public cooperation is essential to safeguarding the county’s youth from the dangers of illicit substances.
Despite facing logistical challenges, Commander Toweh commended officers of the Grand Kru Detachment for their unwavering commitment and resilience in combating narcotics trafficking across the county.
As part of activities marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the LDEA will host a public program in Barclayville on June 26, during which various narcotic substances seized through joint security operations will be publicly destroyed.
Commander Toweh extended an invitation to all citizens to attend the event and reaffirm their collective commitment to creating a drug-free Grand Kru County.
