MONROVIA, July 1 (LINA) –The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative to Liberia, Mr. Aliou Mamadou Dia, on Friday met with President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. at the President’s Rehab Office in Paynesville to discuss ongoing UNDP initiatives and future areas of collaboration with the Government of Liberia.
According to a release posted on UNDP Facebook page, during the meeting, Mr. Dia briefed the President on UNDP’s support to the Government’s Performance Management and Compliance System and reaffirmed the organization’s readiness to assist with the operationalization of the President’s Delivery Unit to accelerate the implementation of key government priorities.
The release added that the UNDP Resident Representative also highlighted the Executive Mansion Communications Internship Program, describing it as an important investment in building the capacity of future Liberian communications professionals.
The release said that climate action and environmental resilience also featured prominently in the discussions, where Mr. Dia outlined efforts to mobilize increased climate financing, including support for coastal protection initiatives in West Point, Sinoe County, and other vulnerable coastal communities affected by climate change.
The release noted that on innovation and digital transformation, Mr. Dia disclosed plans to support the establishment of County Innovation Hubs across Liberia.
He also discussed ongoing collaboration aimed at establishing an Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Cybersecurity Center at the University of Liberia to equip young Liberians with future-ready digital and technical skills.
In the health sector, the UNDP Resident Representative updated President Boakai on the organization’s support for the digitalization of the Registration Unit at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center (JFK).
He also discussed broader efforts to improve access to safe drinking water and essential services in rural communities.
Mr. Dia further spoke about ongoing support to strengthen Liberia’s healthcare system, including efforts to renovate Voinjama Hospital in Lofa County.
He emphasized the need to improve access to running water at the hospital and discussed the procurement of ambulances and mobile clinics to better serve remote communities.
The meeting additionally covered Liberia’s preparations to host the Mano River Union (MRU) YouthConnekt Summit in Monrovia next June in partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The summit is expected to bring together young leaders from across the sub-region while promoting Liberia’s culture, investment opportunities, and development progress.
Mr. Dia also expressed UNDP’s support for President Boakai’s peace and reconciliation agenda, recognizing its significance to national unity, social cohesion, and sustainable development.
For his part, President Boakai welcomed the briefing and thanked Mr. Dia for the UNDP’s continued partnership with Liberia.
He expressed appreciation for the organization’s practical support to the Government’s development agenda and welcomed deeper collaboration in areas that strengthen public institutions, create opportunities for young people, improve service delivery, and enhance the well-being of Liberians.
