MONROVIA, Aug. 14 (LINA) – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has commended members of his Cabinet for their sacrifices, teamwork and contributions to the implementation of his government’s development agenda, stressing that Liberia’s progress requires collective effort.
President Boakai made the remarks Thursday, August 13, 2026 during the 23rd Cabinet Meeting held at the Executive Mansion in Monrovia.
The Liberian leader expressed appreciation to Cabinet ministers and other government officials for their dedication, noting that their responsibilities often require sacrifices of personal and family time.
He also thanked officials and institutions that contributed to the successful observance of Liberia’s Independence celebrations, particularly the county that hosted the national activities.
President Boakai said the government is making progress in several sectors, including healthcare, timely payment of salaries, road infrastructure and other development initiatives, emphasizing that such achievements are products of teamwork.
He particularly commended the Minister of Finance and his team for their efforts in steering the country’s fiscal affairs and implementing measures aimed at improving government operations.
The President urged Cabinet members not to be discouraged by criticism, noting that public officials will always face scrutiny regardless of the progress they make.
He encouraged ministers to remain focused, act with honesty and make decisions based on professional knowledge and expertise rather than public pressure.
President Boakai also called on Cabinet ministers to attend public functions whenever possible, saying their presence demonstrates support for national programs and government achievements.
On national security, the Liberian Chief Executive said the government remains committed to maintaining peace, security and the rule of law, while urging security institutions to remain professional and disciplined in the discharge of their duties.
He stressed that Liberia’s borders must remain secure and called for continued collaboration among security agencies working along the country’s borders.
Touching on the fight against drug trafficking, President Boakai reaffirmed his administration’s determination to combat the illicit drug trade and protect Liberia’s reputation internationally.
“The drug situation is not easy,” the President acknowledged, while emphasizing that his government will continue working to ensure that Liberia remains a country that respects international laws and protects its citizens.
He said threats and intimidation would not derail the government’s efforts, noting that his administration would continue to act in the best interest of the country.
President Boakai also highlighted the importance of international assistance and partnerships in advancing Liberia’s development, particularly in areas such as infrastructure, education, healthcare and social protection.
He referenced donations of shoes, clothing, slippers and other essential materials that have been distributed to vulnerable children and communities across the country.
According to the President, such assistance has helped government agencies, including the Ministries of Gender and Education, support children whose parents are unable to provide basic necessities.
He noted that several containers carrying valuable humanitarian and development-related materials have entered the country through established arrangements, helping the government reduce the financial burden associated with procuring such items.
President Boakai encouraged government officials to properly document and report the impact of these interventions on national development.
On infrastructure, the President referenced ongoing road projects, including the road corridor linking Liberia with neighboring Côte d’Ivoire, and stressed the need for continued attention to major road networks, including the Roberts International Airport road.
He also called for effective coordination among relevant government institutions to ensure that development resources are properly utilized and projects deliver the intended benefits to citizens.
The President urged officials to recognize that while the government may not always be perfect, every effort should be made to deliver responsibly and efficiently.
He said people often focus more on mistakes than accomplishments, emphasizing the need for public officials to remain committed to doing what is right.
President Boakai further disclosed that decisions have been reached regarding the restructuring of port-related operations, including arrangements involving the seaport and Roberts International Airport, stressing the importance of clearly defined responsibilities and systems within government institutions.
He thanked Cabinet members for their contributions to the preparation of government reports and policy documents, emphasizing that every detail in official documents matters.
President Boakai concluded by formally opening the agenda of the 23rd Cabinet Meeting for amendments and discussion, inviting members to propose additional issues for consideration.
The President’s remarks come as his administration continues to advance its development priorities under the ARREST Agenda, with emphasis on infrastructure, security, economic management, social protection and improved public service delivery.
