MONROVIA, Aug. 14 (LINA) – President Joseph N. Boakai Sr., has relieved Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Fitzgerald T.M. Biago as Officer-In-Charge of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) and indefinitely suspended him from the Liberia National Police (LNP) following an investigative report by authorities of the Ministry of Justice.
Speaking at the Ministry of Information regular press briefing on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, Information Minister Jerolinmek M. Piah noted that the report examined allegations against DCP Biago, including reports linking a vehicle connected to a narcotics suspect to his office.
According to the Minister, the President has ordered that DCP Biago be subjected to a more detailed investigation for alleged ethical transgressions.
“In the interim, the President has relieved DCP Biago of his position as OIC of the LDEA and has indefinitely suspended him from the Liberia National Police for ethical transgression and has ordered that he be subjected to a more detailed investigation,” Minister Piah disclosed.
To ensure transparency and accountability, the Minister said an independent Special Administrative and Ethics Review Committee will be established.
He asserted that the committee will investigate whether Biago’s conduct violated the Constitution of Liberia, the National Code of Conduct, LNP administrative instructions, LDEA professional standards, or any other applicable law or regulations.
Minister Piah said members of the committee will include representatives from the Ministry of Justice, the Civil Service Agency, Office of the Ombudsman and Civil Society.
He noted that the government remains committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that all public officials, including those in security institutions, are held to the highest ethical standards.
The suspension comes amid an ongoing government investigation into a US$19.317 million drug case that has implicated several individuals, including some former and current government officials.
