Sinje Town, June 3 (LINA) – WaterAid Liberia, in partnership with the Ministry of Health, has dedicated a modern Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) facility in Fanti Town, Commonwealth District, Grand Cape Mount County.

The facility is aimed at improving healthcare delivery and sanitation services in the community.

Speaking during the presentation ceremony over the weekend, Mrs. Georgina Kparteh Zawolo, Integrated WASH Program Manager at WaterAid Liberia, emphasized that Water, Sanitation and Hygiene remain critical components of effective healthcare delivery and should be prioritized by every government.

According to her, this is why WaterAid Liberia, together with the Ministry of Health, continues to work toward ensuring that health facilities across Liberia benefit from fully functional WASH services.

Mrs. Zawolo disclosed that the Fanti Town WASH facility was constructed at an estimated cost of approximately US$27,000.

The project includes a modern water tower, hand-washing stations, face basins, and a modern bathroom connected directly to the maternity delivery room at the local clinic.

She noted that the facility is adequately equipped to serve residents of Fanti Town and surrounding communities.

She also urged community members to take ownership of the project by ensuring its proper maintenance and sustainability for future generations.

The WaterAid Liberia official further highlighted the organization’s continued support to schools, communities, and health institutions in Grand Cape Mount County and across Liberia.

Also speaking at the event, Dr. Issah O. Swarey, Medical Director of St. Timothy Government Hospital, stressed the importance of collaboration between development partners and local communities.

He said the successful completion of the project demonstrates how strong partnerships can help address healthcare challenges in underserved communities.

Dr. Swarey assured residents that local health authorities would work closely with community members to guarantee the proper management and long-term sustainability of the facility.

Meanwhile, Chief Bai Sherman, Cultural Coordinator of Grand Cape Mount County, praised WaterAid Liberia for its continued investment in rural communities.

He described access to clean water and proper sanitation as an essential service that directly impacts the wellbeing of citizens.

Chief Sherman said the intervention by WaterAid Liberia and the Ministry of Health was a step in the right direction and assured partners that community members would ensure proper care and protection of the facility.

“This will help us to move from drawing water from the streams to very safe and clean water,” he added.

He, therefore, assured WaterAid Liberia and the Ministry of Health that the community will take good care of the facility so that they can be a reason for other communities to get similar opportunities.
